From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.
Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
